Hi everyone. I am Yamaton, a resident of Nara, an ancient capital of Japan.

As a local Nara resident, I am excited to share some insider information about our beautiful city.

What I'm introducing today is a ramen shop called 'Ramenya Mitsuba the Second(ラーメン屋 みつ葉 the second).'

This establishment is the second branch of the renowned 'Ramenya Mitsuba,' which consistently receives high ratings on Japan's most famous review site, 'Tabelog(食べログ).' It offers the same delicious ramen as the bustling original store, where it's always filled with many satisfied customers.

I arrived at the shop right after it opened on a weekday, but half of the six available parking spaces were already occupied.

When I entered the shop, half of the 12 counter seats were already occupied.
I recommend arriving right when it opens, especially on Saturdays and Sundays, as it tends to fill up quickly.

When you enter the shop, the first thing you should do is purchase a meal ticket from the ticket vending machine.

Menu

The ramen offered at this restaurant comes in two varieties: "TON CHIKI Shio Ramen" and "TON CHIKI Shoyu Ramen."

Both feature a delectable broth painstakingly extracted from pork bones and chicken carcasses.

What truly sets them apart is the delightful frothy layer on the surface of the soup! It's a one-of-a-kind bubbly ramen experience that you won't find anywhere else.

TON CHIKI Shio Ramen

Introducing the "TON CHIKI Shio Ramen."
The frothy, creamy soup resembles a rich potage, doesn't it?

Not only do you get the savory goodness of pork and chicken in this bowl, but the salt seasoning also features generous portions of scallops and kelp. The flavors of these ingredients intermingle intricately, resulting in a rich yet light and refreshing broth that will keep your spoon coming back for more.

TON CHIKI Shoyu Ramen

Introducing the "TON CHIKI Shoyu Ramen."

Like the shio ramen, this bowl also boasts a frothy surface on its soup, but it takes on a light brown color compared to the "shio" version.

Compared to the light and refreshing "shio" version, the "shoyu" ramen offers a soup with a robust soy sauce aroma, making it a satisfying choice even for those who prefer stronger flavors.
Of course, it shares the same concentration of pork and chicken umami as the "shio" option!

Vibrant, rosy-hued char siu reminiscent of roast beef.

The char siu is both tender and delicious!

The noodles are delightfully chewy, providing a satisfying bite, yet they also go down smoothly, making for a truly enjoyable experience.

I polished off the whole thing in no time!

The ramen at this establishment boasts a refreshing flavor profile, making it a delightful choice for individuals of all ages, regardless of gender, from children to the elderly.

Located in walking distance of the UNESCO World Heritage site, Horyu-ji, this shop is a great option for lunch when exploring the historic wonders of Ikaruga Town.
