Previously, on my blog, I introduced Yamatokoriyama Castle, a renowned cherry blossom spot.
There is a café nestled in one corner of the castle ruins.
The café is called Ban'ya Café（番屋カフェ）.
Ban'ya Café is located here, on the eastern side across the inner moat from Tenshudai(the main keep platform).
This café, located in one corner of the castle, features an open space with white umbrellas lined up, creating a charming atmosphere.
The term 'Ban'ya' refers to a guard station where a gatekeeper is stationed. The building of the café was relocated from a row house gate of a samurai residence dating back to the late 19th century, and that's how it adopted the name for the café.
After being left abandoned as a vacant house for a long time, it underwent renovation and opened as a café on April 22, 2022.
There are two entrances to the café: one is the main entrance, and the other is specifically designed for wheelchair accessibility or for those accompanied by pets.
In Japanese castle ruins, the implementation of barrier-free facilities is still in its early stages, and there are many areas that have yet to be fully addressed.
However, this café is making commendable efforts to create a comfortable space for all visitors.
It's truly wonderful!
